Virtual Bee Review: Work From Home Data Entry.

5 or 10 years ago, when computers were still relatively new, and less complex and smart as they are now, data entry was a legitamete job. It was vital to businesses both and small, turning from a paper computer, to one with databases and online servers. However, as technology as progressed, data entry at times can be archaic. With computers and scanners doing the work for free, there is less of a demand for data entry workers. Now, I don't mean to have a pessimistic attitude, but data entry jobs are few and far in-between. But alas, I found one that you can join to make money at home with the click of a button. Smart Crowd is one of the largest data entry companies online, constantly looking to outsource their entry to eager working-at-homers that want to make a extra buck on the side.

What Is Smart Crowd?

Smart Crowd, formerly known as Virtual Bee, formerly known as Keys For Cash, started way back in 2001. 16 years in technology advances later, we have Smart Crowd, a Lionbridge company that specializes in data entry and translation services. Lionbridge owned and operated Virtual Bee, and another sister site, for the past couple of years, and in 2015 merged the two to make Smart Crowd.

Background on Lionbridge

Lionbridge, owner and operator of smart crowd, is a global marketing and translation website. They focus on day-to-day operations of businesses to help them operate smoothly. This can be anything from translating product information to a different language to help market it in other countries, to helping with data entry. They do this by outsourcing the work to people like you, eager, hardworking people that want to work at home. Why do work in a office, when you can get paid to do it while sitting on the kitchen table?

What Lionbridge does

What Is Data Entry?

In laymen terms, its taking numbers from a piece of paper, and entering it into a excel sheet, or document/software online. If you join the Smart Crowd, some things you have to do may include, but are not excluded to:

  • Typing
  • Transcription
  • Verify and Correct data
  • Prepare and organize documents for data entry
  • Enter data from documents into a template

What Kind Of Work Will I Be Doing For Smart Crowd?

Smart Crowd divides its positions into three fields of work. These three fields are Data Servicing, Global Testing, and Language Services. Since there are three different categories, members are free to jump between the two; keeping their workload fresh, as to eliminate the connotation that data entry is a  monotonous-robotic like work. Still fuzzy on what those three categories are, or what they entail? Here, ill tell you about them:

  • Data services involves typing, data cleansing, digitalizing data, and updating data.
  • Global Testing is testing new products to ensure they are market ready, without any problems or glitches. This is perfect for people in different countries, as companies want to ensure their product is good to go anywhere.
  • Language services is for those that are bi-tri-or-quad lingual (Im not excluding those who know more, if you do, power to you!) In this category you will primarily be translating content on websites, articles, subscribing videos in different languages, and translating on the phone.

How Do I Join?

Joining is quite easy. All you have to do is go on their website, put in your email, and your on your way to becoming a member of Smart Crowd. In your email you will receive the invitation to join, and take a evaluation exam. Of course they do this because they want to make sure you are at least qualified to do some of the work on the site. This evaluation exam will have sections on translating, and basic data entry. The results of your exam will determine what kind of jobs are right for you. Don't worry too much, but the higher you score, the more opportunities there will be for you to make money.

When Do I Work/How Do I Get Paid?

This is the juicy part of the review, after all, this is a money making blog. After you take the evaluation test, no matter how high you score, you will be put on a waiting list. You won't see the list, or know how high up on it you are, so you will just have to wait. Work is random on the site. Some months you may work 30 hours, others you may work a couple.

To get paid, you will have to do a lot of work; bottom line. Typically their members get paid 10 cents for 1,000 key strokes. Consequently, payment for each assignment will depend on how much data you are entering, and how many strokes are in the piece of data. For example, you will get paid $10 if you enter in 7200 words(roughly).

Is This A Good Money Making Opportunity?

My gut is saying no on this one. I have reviewed a lot of sites, and have found that to make money on this site, you will have to put in a lot more work than if you were doing another money making strategy online. What are these strategies you may ask? Survey sites. Survey Sites get you paid quick and easy, and you do not have to sit on a computer plugging in data for a hour. Check out our Top 20 Paid Survey Sites, to start making some serious money online.

In addition to survey sites, there are other options out there. A site like Product Testing USA is similar to a survey site, but more hands on, like data entry. Instead of just answering questions online, with Product Testing USA, you get sent the actual product. You then film yourself using it, answer questions online about it, and give your opinion on the product. This helps companies determine what they want to change about products, and how they can better advertise it to their consumers.

If you enjoy more hands on activities to make money, try Amazon Flex. Amazon Flex is a website where you essentially can become a Amazon delivery driver. You get to drive your own car, set your own schedule, and decide how far you want to drive. Once a package and delivery pop up in your area, you are alerted and can choose to pick it up or ignore it. It is similar to Uber, but you don't have to have random people in your car.
